Organizational Profile of Phoenix Association

Background                                       

Phoenix was established in 2005 as a self-help group by and for People Living with HIV (PLHIV). After the cyclone Nargis in 2008, it expanded the scope of work from humanitarian assistance to development work. The transition enabled Phoenix to work not only for the HIV community but also for the general community. In 2009, Phoenix was reformed including non-PLHIV community members and theprofessionals. It drafted the new constitution in 2011 for the better governance and got it field tested involving various stakeholders such as beneficiaries, local authorities and international non-government organizations in the process. The new constitution was approved in 2012. In May, 2012, Phoenix Association registered at the Ministry of Home Affairs as a local NGO with Associations Registration No. 1/ LOCAL / 0323 .

  1. To promote justice and rules of law in HIV-related health and other sectors
  2. To coordinate with authorities, respective organizations and networks for justice and secure environments
  3. To improve capacities for youth and other necessary human resources to take leadership role in promoting justice and rule of law
